  大坂冬の陣では、幸村に追認される形で徳川方の陣に夜襲をかけた。大坂夏の陣では、本多正信の策略に嵌ってしまい、徳川への内通の噂を打ち消すことに焦り、幸村達の援軍を待たずに出撃して道明寺で奮戦するが、伊達軍に討ち取られる。大坂夏の陣では徳川側に猛攻をかけ、最後の戦いまで生き残ったが、その後については描かれていない。戦国時代には長島の願証寺を中心として一向宗の一大拠点が形成され、一向宗門徒らによる自治が行われていたが、やがて尾張の織田信長と対立し戦乱が起きるようになった。
